Mangaluru: Shailesh Ganiga alias Shailu (24), the 23rd accused in the attack by Sri Ram Sene members on pub goers in 2009, was recently arrested by the Mangaluru North police in connection with a crime.
Following his arrest, Mangaluru North Inspector Shantaram submitted a report about him likely to be involved in activities that would be detrimental to public order in the city and based on his report, police commissioner Mr. Chandra Sekhar invoked the Goonda Act ( The Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug-Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum-Grabbers Act) against Shailesh. Mr. Sekhar said Shailesh was involved in dozens of criminal cases reported from different city police stations.
It is learnt that he has been moved from the Mangaluru prison to the Mysuru Central Prison.
As many as nine persons have been booked under this Act by the city police since January 15, 2015. Shailesh becomes the sixth person to be booked under the Goonda Act this year.
The order passed by Mr. Sekhar against Ganiga will be reviewed by a committee headed by a High Court Judge.
