Rural students stage snap protest demanding adequate bus service

Yellapur: Students from rural areas around Yellapur staged a snap protest by blocking buses near Ambedkar Circle in the town on Tuesday demanding regularity in bus services for the convenience of students.

“There is no adequate bus service from interior villages like Bilaki (eight km from Manchikeri) and Baichagodu (seven km from Ummachagi). This has been causing inconvenience to people, especially school and college students. The bus that leaves Baichagodu between 8:00 am and 9:00 am reaches Yellapur after passing through Manchikeri and Majjigehalla. Ultimately, it takes a lot of time to reach Yellapur. So, we are unable to reach our schools/colleges on time,” the protesting students said. A verbal clash broke out between the students and the NWKRTC Traffic Controller Chalavadi over the issue. SI Amin Attar, ASI Deepak Naik and others spoke to the protesting students and calmed them down. Later, they made way for the movement of buses.

The students withdrew after warning that they will lay siege to the bus stand if adequate buses at proper timing are not operated.
