Bhatkal: Even as the four-laning of National Highway-66 continues through Bhatkal, residents have expressed concern over an increasing traffic hazard near Shamsuddin Circle, where one carriageway is frequently occupied by stray cattle while the opposite side is partially blocked by illegally parked vehicles.

According to local residents, cattle are often seen resting on one lane of the newly developed carriageway, forcing motorists to slow down or change lanes. On the opposite side, cars and two-wheelers belonging to shoppers visiting a nearby shopping mall are reportedly parked along the single-lane stretch, further restricting the flow of traffic.

Residents point out that, with service roads yet to be completed, local commuters are already compelled to use the main highway for daily travel. They say the combined impact of stray cattle on one carriageway and roadside parking on the other has significantly reduced the effective road width, increasing the risk of traffic congestion and accidents.

Commuters have urged the authorities to take immediate corrective measures by removing stray cattle from the highway and preventing illegal roadside parking. They have also sought clarity on which agency is responsible for ensuring that the national highway remains free from such obstructions and for enforcing traffic regulations in the area.
