Moodbidri: Over 10,000 job aspirants attended the first day of 'Alva's Pragati-2016,' a two-day job fair at Alva's Education Foundation here on Saturday.
The fair, in its seventh edition, has witnessed a participation of 304 companies. While the organisers claimed to have received 10,242 registrations online, besides the spot registration by 2,173 candidates, a total of 10,856 candidates attended interviews on the opening day.
The quadrangle at the main block of PU college was abuzz with job seekers, with tension writ large on their faces. Some of the candidates were accompanied by their parents. A LED screen had been erected at the centre, with related information screened on the same for the benefit of aspiring candidates.
Flex boards with cornucopia of information on participating companies gave a peek into potential employers.
Shivaprasad from Puttur, a MSW holder from Mangalore University who was looking forward for the first round of interview, told Deccan Herald, "I have already attended an interview elsewhere and also hopeful of getting a placement. However, I wanted to know if there are any further better opportunities and trying my luck again."
Dedicated facilities
The main block is dedicated for openings for degree, post-graduate and engineering degree holders, whereas degree block is for ITI, Diploma, PUC and SSLC candidates. Two employability enhancement centres have been temporarily set up at Nudisiri Vedike and main block, to provide proper career guidance. Besides, to enable the right candidates, some of the companies have pasted pamphlets with information on nature of job and requirements along with pay scale.
The job opportunities are open for candidates irrespective of SSLC, II PUC and its equivalent courses, graduates, post-graduates, engineering graduates, nursing graduates and diploma holders among others. The list of employers includes Abu Dhabi-based New Medical Centre (NMC), Amazon, IBM, Oracle, UAE Exchange, Tesco, Taffe, Adani Groups, Raymond, TVS, Apollo to name a few.
Mantra of success
Earlier, at the inaugural session organised at V S Acharya Hall on college premises, B R Shetty, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NMC Healthcare, New Medical Centre (NMC), from Abu Dhabi, gave a clarion call to the job aspirants to work hard and commit for a cause to achieve success in life. Citing his own example, Shetty narrated the ordeal he underwent as a small time politician, before going bankrupt and eventually shifting to Abu Dhabi for a job. A medical sales representative once, Shetty went on to narrate how he climbed the ladder of success in life reaching his current status.
Alva's Education Foundation Chairman Mohan Alva, his son and Managing Trustee Vivek Alva, former minister K Abhaychandra Jain and MLC Ganesh Karnik were present.
