Mangaluru: JIH Goa Secretary Sarfraz killed in an accident

Mangaluru:  Sarfraz Nawaz, the Secretary of Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Goa zone was killed in a road accident in Falnir on Wednesday when he was heading towards home after offering the prayers at Pakkaladka Masjid.

 

As per the witnesses, Sarfaraz's bike had hit a vehicle and he fell down. The speeding bus plying from BC Road to Mangaluru crushed him under the tyres. "The bus was plying at a high speed and  the driver applied the brakes only after killing the youth,” said an eye witness.

The 36-year-old is the son-in-law of Yusuf Pakkaladka, the vice president of Dakshina Kannada district committee of Welfare Party of India, had come to Mangaluru to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with his pregnant wife at his in-law’s house.

Soon after the accident, Sarfaraz was rushed to a private hospital, where he was pronounced brought dead.

The  driver tried to flee the scene but the locals caught him and thrashed him and handed him to the police.After the accident, an angry crowd gathered on the road. Nearly two dozen policemen rushed to the spot to control the angry mob.

According to sources, Sarfaraz was supposed to go back to Goa later today and then fly to a Gulf country. He had served as the Goa state president of Students’ Islamic Organisation of India in the past.

Though his parents hailed from Kotepura in Ullal, Sarfraz was brought up in Goa. He will be buried at Kotepura on Thursday morning, sources said.

President of Jamaat-e-Islami-Hind Karnataka, Atharullah Shareef and other members have expressed their condolences on his sad demise.
