Bhatkal: Senior legislator and former Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister R.V. Deshpande launched the renovation project of 12 mosques managed by Anjuman Falahul Muslimeen in Dandeli, taken up under the Karnataka government’s 2025–26 infrastructure development programme.
Addressing the gathering at Sainagar, Deshpande said poverty continues to affect a significant section of the Muslim community and stressed that education must be given top priority to address the issue. He urged parents to focus on providing higher education to their children, noting that only an educated society can build a strong and progressive nation.
The project has been sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Scheme with a grant of ₹1.10 crore. Deshpande said the Anjuman, led by its president Riyaz Babu Sayed, has been functioning effectively and had sought assistance for the renovation of its mosques, which was subsequently approved. He also directed that all works be executed while maintaining high quality standards.

Anjuman president Riyaz Babu Sayed, in his address, said Deshpande is a leader who represents all communities and has consistently supported inclusive development. He expressed gratitude for the substantial grant, stating that the community would always remember his contributions.
Haji Mohammed Iqbal Kasim Khan, president of Tauheed Society Charitable Trust, in his introductory remarks, outlined the activities of the Anjuman and thanked Deshpande for his continued support.
On the occasion, Laiba Parveen Mohammed Ibrahim, a student of Tauheed PU College who secured first rank in the taluk and second place in the district in the arts stream of the PUC examinations, was felicitated by Deshpande on behalf of the college and the Anjuman. Deshpande was also honoured separately by the organisation and representatives of the mosques.
Tahsildar Shailesh Paramanand, Municipal Commissioner Vivek Banne, Shamsher Sheikh, Saleem Sheikh, and others were also present.
