Bhatkal: A student, identified as Mohammad Fazeel S/O Syed Qadeer (16), a resident of Chitradurga, drowned in the sea at Murdeswar, a tourist spot in Bhatkal.

It is learned that Mohammad Fazeel, a class-10 student of Chinmuladari National High School in Chitradurga, had reached Murdeshwar along with other students on his school picnic.

A total of 120 students from Chitradurga along with their four teachers reached Murdeshwar on Friday morning after visiting Sirsi, Jog Falls, Gokaran and other places.

While a group of students were playing in the sea, Fazil drowned under the influence of sea waves. The fishermen nearby rushed to help him, but by the time they reached him, Fazeel had drowned in the sea.

After an hour-long search, his body was recovered from the sea.

As soon as the news of drowning in the sea was received, Murdeshwar Police reached the spot and after necessary procedures, shifted the body to Bhatkal Government Hospital.

On getting the news of the boy's death, the boy's family left Chitradurga for Murdeshwar and reached Bhatkal by evening.

A case has been registered in this regard at the Murdeswar police station and investigation is underway under the guidance of Bhatkal rural Police Inspector Mahabaleshwar Naik.
