Udupi: An accident was reported at Kaup near here, where an elderly man was killed after he was hit by an Innova car belonging to the president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat Dinakar Babu on 23rd August, Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Chandru Mestri (70 Yrs).

According to the sources, Dinakar was on his way to attend an inaugural function of a kho-kho match in a school when his Innova car hit Chandru who was trying to cross the road near Kaup town municipal office.

Dinakar rushed out of the car and without wasting any time took the victim in his car and brought him to Adarsh hospital. However, Chandru was declared 'brought dead' by the doctors.

Chandru’s body was later shifted to the Ajjarkad hospital. A case has been registered in Kaup police station.
