Udupi: The unique protest held by a social worker who swam in potholes has given good results in less than a week, bringing much relief, though temporary, to the citizens as the roads are now fixed.
At times, unique and special protests like the one performed by Nithyananda Olakadu on 8th August captures the media glare and forces the authorities to wake up and take action.
The road near Manipal bus stand was full of large potholes due to which social worker Nityananda had held a symbolic protest, where he swam in the potholes to drive home his point and following it the road was repaired on 11th August, Friday morning.
The successful maverick thanked the department on the relief. The assistant engineer, NHAI, Manjunath Naik said, “Wet mix has been used as a substitute to fill the potholes for now and the stretch would be paved with tar, once monsoon end.”
Speaking to press, Nityananda said that the protests should not be the only propellant to solve such problems. Officials must immediately solve problems upon a request.
