Tourism ministry to develop nine beaches

Karwar: Nine beaches of Karnataka will be developed by the Union Tourism Ministry under its’Swadesi Darshan’ circuit by providing basic facilities along with other facilities, said Tourism Department Director N Manjula.

Speaking to press persons during her visit to Karwar, which is one of the nine selected cities, she said five beaches of Uttara Kannada district and two each in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have been selected.

She visited Murdeshwar beach, Honnavar Mavinakurve beach, Gokrana Om beach, Kudle beach and Karwar’s Ravindranath Tagore beach on Wednesday and gathered information in this regard.

Jungle Lodges Managing Director Vijay Sharma, Karnataka Tourism development Board Managing Director Kumar Pushkar and others were present. Under the project, Karnataka will receive Rs 91 crore for development of beaches. The funds will be utilised for hiring life guards, watch towers, CCTV cameras, floating jetty, restaurants and information desks, she said.
