Karwar: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer L Chandrashekhar Nayak sought cooperation of all the departments for special drive planned to register voters aged between 18 to 21 years.
Speaking at a Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee meeting held in Karwar, on Tuesday, he said, the drive is being launched to register the eligible young voters. To achieve this, special camps should be held at per-university, degree, engineering, medical, ITI, and poly-techniques to register voters.
These camps should be held on the first day of college opening, and every eligible voter should be registered.
A lecturer in each college should be identified to act as nodal officer for this drive, he instructed.
He further instructed the officials to create awareness among the college students about the facility of create awareness among the college students about the facility of online registration. If the contact number of the students who had left the colleges after completing their courses are obtained and supplied to the district administration, steps would be taken to send SMS to these students so that they could be registered as voters, Mr Naik stated.
Organizations such as Nehru Yuva Kendra, youth organizations, and women’s organizations too should extend help in identifying and registering young voters, Steps should also been taken to register the names of Young women who would have come to their husband’s home after getting married he suggested.
