Mangaluru: Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation DV Sadananda Gowda has said that he will submit a report on the recent incidents of communal clashes in Dakshina Kannada district to the Union Home Minister.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Gowda said he had met the district administration and police officials earlier in the day and discussed the recent incidents of communal clashes in the region.

Ministers blamed

Gowda said he knows law and order is a state subject, and he would not like to interfere in that. Blaming two state ministers for the breakdown in the law and order in Dakshina Kannada, he said the government machinery is not working properly in the region.

He said he would submit a report on his meeting with the officials to the Union Home Minister on Wednesday.

Stating that recent incidents of communal clashes are limited to two assembly constituencies represented by the two ministers, Gowda said the district administration had imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the entire district for the last 42 days.

This shows the failure of the administrative machinery to maintain law and order in the region, he added.
