Haliyal: Mamata Kelogi, a resident of Dusagi village in Haliyal taluk and also the student of Alva's boarding school in Moodbidri, has been selected for the international wrestling games.
The international wrestling for girls under the age of 17 years is to be held in Athens in Greece from September 1 till September 6. Almost ten girls from India have been selected for that tournament. The only girl from Karnataka is Mamata Kelogi from Haliyal in Uttar Kannada district. Mamata will be playing for 38 kg wrestling section.
In a training camp conducted at Lucknow from 1st August, Mamata participated and also defeated Ranjana of Uttar Pradesh in a match held on 18th August and obtained 10-0 in just 1.45 minutes. This victory made to register her name for international level games.
It is said that the Alva's boarding school always helped Mamata in her sports activities and also has being providing education at free of cost. The wresting authorities of India too are co-operating with Mamata for her participation in International wrestling.
