Karwar: Incessant rainfall across the district has caused damages to houses and poperties at Ankola, Siddapur, Sirsi, Honnavar and other taluks.
As parts of the district has been receiving rain accompanied by gale of wind since last week, electricity polls and some big trees were fallen on six houses in different places of Sirsi taluk. A few houses were damaged at Bhairumbe village and some areas in Sirsi. More than 25 electricity poles were damaged in the taluk and the HESCOM suffered huge losses.
A coconut tree had fell on a house at Bobruwada village in Ankola taluk, causing damages to poperties. No harm was caused to anyone in the incident.
In Siddapur and Yellapur taluks, many trees were fallen on electric poles, damaging the powercables and disruputing power supply.The trees that fell on the road disrupted vehicular movement.
However, incessant rain gave a boost to agriculture activities. All villages in the district have been receiving 1-2cm rain every day, encouraging the farmers to take up paddy sowing.
According to the agriculture Department, the district has been receiving good rainfall from the last one week and agriculture activities have picked up across the district.
