Puttur: An incident was reported at Manjalpadu in the outskirts of the town, where two persons escaped after snatching a bag containing three lakh rupees from the hands of a businessman. The incident happened on 22nd June and the accused were arrested by the police on 3rd July, Monday.
The accused identified as Manish (19) from Mura near here, and Vikhyath Devadiga (21), resident of Kemmayi, Beernahittilu were arrested by the police and Rs. 73,000 in cash along with a cellphone were confiscated from the possession of arrested persons.
Both the accused were remanded judicial custody by the court.
According to the sources, Sudarshan Nayak who is a partner in the Mangala store at Manjalpadu was on his way home around 8:10 pm on 22nd June along with the cash collection for the day carried in a bag. He stopped by his partner Akshay’s house. The accused who are said to have followed Nayak approached him at Akshay’s courtyard, distracted him and escaped after snatching the bag.
In this regard, a case was filed in the town police station here.
Police inspector of the station, Mahesh Prasad and his team, who took up investigation, succeeded in taking the accused into custody on Monday morning from near Kemmayi. Police sub-inspector, Omana, crime sub-inspector, Venkatesh, and other personnel participated in the operation.
