Bhatkal : A pillion rider was killed on the spot when he fell down from a running bike. The incident occurred near Hanif Abad Cross NH 66 in Bhatkal. 

The deceased has been identified as Shabuddin Bashir Mulla (18) hailing from Badriya Colony in Bhatkal. 

According to initial reports, the bike was on the way to Badriya Colony, Bhatkal from Shirali Venktapur when suddenly a dog started running across the highway. Syed Mubarak, who was riding the bike tried to avoid the crossing dog. In the process, he lost the balance due which Bashir, who was riding behind him fell down on the highway. A speedy lorry coming from Honnavar to Bhatkal hit Shabuddin who died on the spot.

Both Shabuddin and Syed Mubarak, labourers by profession, were returning to their homes after having tea at a tea stall in Venktapur. 

Bashir's body was shifted to Bhatkal Government hospital where hundreds of people had gathered where Bhatkal CPI Suresh Nayak amongst other police officials were also present.
