Peace meeting held at Bhatkal; police assures security

Bhatkal: A peace meeting was held at the Circuit house here in Bhatkal in the view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr which will be celebrated in a few days after the completion of Muslim Holy Month Ramzan. Due to the huge turnout in the Ramzan Bazaar in the downtown area, the police organizes a peace meet as the month of Ramzan ends, inviting leaders from different communities to assure them of security and discuss any other related issues. 

Chairing the meeting, Additional SP Devraj requested everyone to maintain harmony and said that the police has made appropriate security arrangements. “We have done what we can from our side. We have deployed additional forces too, but it’s the responsibility of the people to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.” He said. "Festivals are joyous occasions for celebration and everybody should celebrate their respective festivals in complete harmony".  He added, stating that the police department has made particular arrangements so that Eid can be celebrated in peaceful manner. "We want unity among all communities and everybody has the right to celebrate their festivals in accordance with their customs." 

Mr. Mohiddin Altaf Kharuri, the general secretary of the local NGO Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem also spoke on the occasion and explained the importance of Ramzan, fasting and how Zakat (charity) was distributed in this month. Speaking about the Eid, he said that it will be celebrated after the sighting of the new moon.

Mr. Syed Abdul Azeem SM, the secretary of the Eidgah Committee informed that due to rain, Eid prayers will be performed in the Jamia Masjid instead of Eidgah, the usual arena of Eid prayers.

Bhatkal CPI Suresh Nayak welcomed the gathering and said that police personnel have also been deployed to clear traffic congestion in the Ramzan Bazaar.He also requested the public not to spread rumours through social media and told the people to inform the police in case of any untoward incidents.

Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner Mr. Manjunath; Tahshildar Mr. VN Badkar; Municipal president Mr. Mohammed Sadique Matta; Anjuman General Secretary Mr. Ismail Siddique; Namdhari Samaj President Mr. BK Naik, DYSP Mr. Shiv Prakash, BJP Leader Mr. Govinda Naik, Mr. Krishna Naik, Mr. Dinesh Naik, Auto Union President Mr. Venkatesh Naik and many political leaders and government officers were present.
