Mangaluru: A drive was launched by the Police personnel belonging to the city police commissionerate on 12th August, Saturday night against drunken driving during which, around 91 cases were registered.
According to sources, the police personnel registered 91 cases of drunk driving and confiscated 21 vehicles. They had set up check posts at various spots within the commissionerate limits.
The drunken drivers were taken up by surprise and most of them made excuses and requests to get away. However, the police clamped heavy fines and also confiscated several vehicles in extreme cases.
The special drive was set up on Saturday on orders of Deputy commissioner of police, Hanumantharaya. The drive was the result of the several complaints received about reckless and high speed driving by drivers under the influence of liquor, during the phone-in programme on Friday.
The DCP said that the drive against drunken driving to weed out this menace will continue.
