Mangaluru: A person was arrested by the Mangaluru North Police along with the assistance from Goa Railway Police for alleged theft of around Rs. 9 lakh on 12th August, Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Jaseem Uddin (41) alias Jasmuddin Laskar, a native of Assam.

According to the police, a complaint was filed with the Mangaluru North Police by Ismail, owner of a shop at Bibi Alabi Road in the city reporting a theft of Rs. 9.25 lakh cash from his shop. He suspected that Jasmuddin Lasker, who worked in his shop, could be involved in it.

Receiving a tip-off, the Mangaluru North Police alerted the Goa Railway Police in Madgaon that the accused was on a train heading towards Goa. The Goa Railway police arrested the accused and Rs.9 lakh was recovered from Jaseem, while he had bought a cell phone worth Rs. 25,000 using the stolen cash.
