Udupi: A protest was staged by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Udupi district against the critical year back system of the Visveshvaraya Technological University (VTU) on 28th August, Monday.

The demand was presented during the protest at the Clock tower to cancel the critical year back system to Non-CBCS (Choice-Based Credit System) students and introduce Supplementary to the CBCS students.

“Due to the delay by the University in the re-evaluation results of the odd semester examinations, many students were forced to write over 16 examinations in a span of three months”, said NSUI Udupi district president Christen Almeida while speaking at the protest.

He added, “They had to write the supplementary exams of the odd semester as well as the semester exams during the span of three months. Under the critical year system, students cannot enter the third year if they do not pass their first year papers or cannot enter final year if they do not pass all their second year papers.”

He said that even the crash course which was introduced to the final year, as well as the second-year students to save them from the year back scheme six months back actually caused more trouble than any good. The VTU should permit students who failed in critical subjects to attend classes.

Arthur Charles, Nikhil Devadiga, Devdas Nayak, Sachin, Marsh, Shrirag, Shailesh, Muhammed Swahil and others were present at the gathering.
