Karwar: A four-day natural disaster defense training camp for village accountants, which was organized by the district administration, concluded in Karwar on Monday.
Nearly 80 village accountants of the district were trained in two batches near Kali Bridge in the city. The training included swimming, kayak and raft boat used during flood, first-aid procedure, self-defense, motor boat driving, ferry crossing, handling machinery and other safety material.
The administration provides necessary lifesaving training to village accountants and selected revenue officials to take up rescue operation during flood-like situations during monsoon season. It was the third such programme organized by the administration. As many as 60 people were trained in the first camp and 80 in the second camp held last year.
Some villages in the district face flood threat during rainy season. In such situation, the village accountants should rush to the spot and take rescue measures. Such practical training help develop leadership qualities and also improve the skills to tackle the situations.
Only in U.K district in the entire State, such a training is being provided to the revenue officials, said Additional DC H Prasanna.
Trainers Chandrakanth Harikantra, Vindo, Jayaram Harikantra and Jagadish Harikantra provided practical training to the village accountants.
