Karwar: A meeting was held by DC S S Nakul in the wake of the Tandrakuli landslide incident, here on 14th June, Wednesday and NHAI-Karnataka general manager Y N Prasad and IRB general manager Agarwal took part in it.

With regards to the horrible incident which occurred on Sunday at Tandrakuli, Nakul said that if incidents like this repeat in the district, he will file criminal cases against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and IRB Westcoast Tollways Private Limited.

The landslide had claimed life of three kids, injured eight and destroyed seven houses. It was alleged by the locals that unscientific work of IRB was the reason for the landslide. Nakul made it clear in the meeting that if anymore lives were to be claimed by any such landslides, he would file a criminal case against both the firms.

He also set off a team directed by senior officials to ensure that scientific safety measures are taken to prevent landslides and disasters during national highway widening works. “No projects are bigger than people’s lives. It is the responsibility of the NHAI to ensure safety measures during road work, but it failed to monitor the same properly,” he added.

Senior officials, including ZP CEO L Chandrashekar Nayak, Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna and Assistant Commissioners Ramesh Kalasada and Sivananda Karakal, were present at the meeting.
