Karwar: The death of her 10-year-old son Subramanya Krishna Kunabi, led the mother into shock and was admitted to a government hospital at Joida taluk on 9th June, Friday for treatment for blood pressure fluctuations and sugar.
It was not the first shock to Prema Kunabi as she had lost another child who was just Eighteen months old. The doctor who attended her said that she is suffering from health problems like fluctuations in blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
The unfortunate incident occurred on 8th June, Thursday when her son Subramanya, who was studying in fourth standard at the Government Lower Primary School at Malakarni, died after collapsing in his classroom.
It is reported that the boy collapsed during lunch break and as the boy fell on the floor, the school’s only teacher Aravind Naik and the midday meal cook tried first aid and called ambulance of Joida hospital. But it was informed that the ambulance was out of station. Without wasting any time, Naik took the boy to Joida hospital which is 5 km from the village.
But the boy didn’t make it. His classmates and the teacher who witnessed the incident are still in shock. Since the news broke, the boys mother has been crying non-stop for hours. Unfortunately, the incident occurred right in-front of eyes of his elder sister Nagaveni who is in fifth standard in same school.
The doctors say that the cause for the death was cardiac arrest. The body was then taken to Bisagodu-Hoskatte village of Yellapur taluk where his father Krishna lives, and buried. It is said that after having six kids, the couple decided to live separately and Prema settled at her mother’s house in Malakarni.
“He was a good student. He was improving a lot in his studies. He died in front of my eyes. I do not want to recall the incident”, said Naik.
