Officials told to take steps to stem sale of Goa Liquor

Karwar: Directions were given to officials by State Temperance Board Chairman HC Rudrappa to apply strict measures in Uttara Kannada district to check illegal sale and transportation of liquor from neighboring Goa on 13th June, Tuesday.

Rudrappa was addressing the officers at the Deputy Commissioner’s office about various programs which are taken up by Temperance Board. He said that the roots of illegal liquor sale from Goa must be traced. The illegal sale and transportation of liquor must be controlled as due to this a lot of families have come to the streets.

He also said that students must be prevented from falling prey to drugs and for this constant vigil must be kept upon them in hostels run by social welfare and minority department.

DC of Uttar Kannada district S S Nakul suggested that gram panchayats which come completely alcohol free must be identified and awarded cash prize in order to encourage them.

In addition to that, street plays are being held to create awareness on ill-effects of alcohol, seminars and lectures by noted doctors are being conducted at schools and colleges and stalls are set up in mega programmes like Mysuru Dasara to tell people about bad effects of liquor.
