Bhatkal: In yet another incident of deliberate attempt to stoke communal tension in the region, a youth was arrested by the Honnavar police for allegedly posting a morphed photo of a religious place on Facebook. He was arrested 15th June, Thursday.

The accused, identified as Jaiwant Naik, a resident of Hodke Shiroor was had  posted a morphed picture of a Hindu deity Hanuman, standing over the holy Kabah – the most sacred place for Muslims-. However, the local Muslims prevented any flaring up of communal tension and after a meeting of a local NGO Jamatul Muslimeen Murdeshwar on Wednesday, a case was filed at the Honnavar police station. A memorandum was also submitted to the Tehsildar, asking him to take action against the culprit who was trying to destabilize peace in the region.

“Such incidents cause communal tension and may also lead to disruption in peace. Many anti-social organizations wait for such things to happen so that they can indulge in rioting. We wanted to prevent this and we have.” Said a member of Jamat.

Mr. Jamaal Abdul Khadir Kotebagil, the president of Jamatul Muslimeen Murdeshwar had filed the complaint and had PSI Anand Kumar registered the case. After initial investigation, Jaiwant was taken under custody.
