Heavy rains lash coastal districts

Mangaluru:  A 75 year-old man died when a shed near his house collapsed at Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district, even as heavy rains lashed the entire coastal region since yesterday.

Some other houses also collapsed in Sullia taluk in the rains, official sources said.

Traffic on the Uppinangady-Subramanya state highway was affected when the Hosmat bridge near Kadaba got submerged in the rains.

Movement of vehicles was also affected on the way from Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala.

Low-lying areas and roads were inundated in several parts of the city, Bhatkal, Karwar and Udupi.

The meteorological department has predicted good rainfall in the coastal area in the next 24 hours.
