Haliyal: Industries Minister R V Deshpande on Wednesday sent a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley requesting him to ensure that the GST and the GST compensation cess on commodities like footwear, textiles and biscuits are fixed at minimum possible slabs.

As the commodities in question are used by all the citizens, irrespective of economic status, minimum taxation is justified, Deshpande stated. He also pointed out that unorganized labourers are engaged in manufacture of these commodities.
