Karwar: The goverment, as promised in the Budget 2017-2018 in starting 100 Maulana Azad model schools across the State, in which Uttar Kannada district has got four such schools.
The main aim of the government to start these schools is to bring back dropped out students and provide quality education to the children from minority communities.
The Department of Minorities Welfare has already started residential model schools in the district.
Children will be admitted to 6th Standard. The medium of instruction in these schools is English. Urdu schools, which had been closed due to poor attendance have been selected to house the new schools.
One each school will come up at Karwar, Mundgod, Haliyal and Bhatkal.
"The academic year was started one month back. But the goverment has decided to start these schools from this academic year even if it's one month late. All prepartions have been made and several parents have also come forward to admit their wards to Maulana Azad Model Schools", says minorities Welfare Department District Officer Guddappa Jigalikoppa.
He said that information about starting new schools had been disseminted through department's notice board, residential areas were minority people were residing, masjids and churches, posters having information about these schools had also been displayed. He clarified that officals were not forcing any parents to admit their wards studying in other schools to the new schools. Students who were coming forwards voluntarily were only admitted. There were 11 students at Goverment Higher Primary Urdu school at Sadashivagad here.The same school had been selected to house Maulana Azad Model School. The students selected for this school would get education free of cost from 6th Standard to 10th Standard. A part from this, well equipped classrooms, pure drinking water, uniform, textbooks will also be provided with computers, printer, UPS and CCTV cameras.
Jigalikoppa further said, guest teachers would be appointed to teach Kannada, English, Urdu and Mathematics. Students interested to take admission into these schools could contact taluk officer of Minorities Welfare Department. The intake capacity for each class is 60. Students from minorities communities-Christian, Muslim, Jain, Budhism, Sikh and Parsi can take admision into these schools. A part from this, 25% seats will be reserved for students from SC/STs. Girl students will get 50% reservation in each class.
