Karwar: Fund panel increase relief amounts for fishermen

Karwar: The decision to increase compensation Fund Committee meeting chaired by Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj

The compensation amount paid to fishermen casualties was hiked from Rs 2 lakh to 3 lakh, relief for death cases in sea while fishing raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, property damage, boat damage cases and medical expenses from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1lakh. In cases where insurance is not paid, Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.20 lakh.

Fisheries department Deputy Director S L Dodmani said fishermen and boat tandelars who saved lives in sea accidents be given a bravely award of Rs 50,000.

Decision was also taken during to pay 1 percent compensation on diesel sales by motarised boat owners.
