Karwar: In wake of a recent landslide, the entry to Sathodi waterfalls in Yellapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district has been restricted.
The landslide had brought boulders rolling down from heights of 150-200 feet and resulted in heaps of mud at the waterfalls. A damage of property worth Rs.5 lakh has been reported.
Recently, the Sathodi waterfalls has been receiving heavy rainfalls for over a week and it resulted in two big boulders along with mud and some small boulders coming down in form of a landslide.
“There was no one present during the landslide and hence there were no casualties. A newly constructed Paragula (tourist rest point) has been totally damaged in the incident. It was constructed in March at a cost of Rs 2.25 lakh,” said ACF of Yellapur S B Marigoolappanavar.
Sathodi falls attracts many tourists during the monsoon months. Tourists from Hubballi-Dharwad visit the falls in large numbers.
