Mangaluru: The city crime branch of Mangaluru city police have nabbed two people for attempting to loot gold worth Rs. 5.5 crores from a co-operative bank here on 4th July, Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Ramachandra( 57 yrs), resident of Kurchigudde, Someshwar and Mohan Kumar( 47 yrs), residing at Pandit House, Kotekar.
According to police sources, the duo were suffering from a financial crisis and wanted to settle their debt by robbing off the valuables.
The robbery was performed by the duo on 23rd June after learning that the Bank would have thin staffing during Friday noon on occasion of Friday Prayers.
They entered into bank with lethal weapons, threatened everyone and lock them inside a room including the security personnel but Ramachandra, an employee broke open the door and ran towards accused, who were trying to escape with huge quantity of gold valuable.
A huge stone was flung at them by him and the latter escaped leaving the gold.
A case was registered and after investigation the police have nabbed the duo.
