Karwar: The bodies of two engineering students, who were drowned by high tides at Apsarakonda beach in Honnavar taluk, were traced on Tuesday.

After postmortem, the bodies of Nainesh (23), son of Veerayya from Yelahanka of Bengaluru, and Jayanth Joshi (22) of Koppal district were sent to their hometowns. It is to be noted that on Monday morning, a group of 16 students, including seven girls, of SSIT Engineering College in Tumakuru had come to Idagunji for the wedding of their classmate. After the wedding, they went to Apsarakonda beach in the evening and started playing games.

Following rain and wind, there were heavy lashing waves, which washed three students away. However, one of them managed to swim and reach the land. Manki police said due to high tides and rain, they were not in a position to take up search operation on Monday. On Tuesday morning, the body of Joshi was found on the shore. In the afternoon, the body of Nainesh was found when fishermen droped the hook into the sea.

Locals, fishermen, police, fire brigades and coastal security police were part of the search operation. Postmortem was done at Honnavar taluk hospital. The parents of the deceased had come to Honnavar and after postmortem, they took the bodies to their native places, police added.
