Karwar: As many as 43 voters got notices from Karwar taluk administration saying their names will be cancelled from the voter list.

These voters from Khargejoog island village near Vailawad in Karwar taluk work in Goa and other places to earn their living. The villagers who visited the Tahsildar office in the city on Monday, said all the 43 people from the village work in Goa, Karwar and other places. During weekends, they return to village and yet they got notices saying their names would be deleted from voter list.

But the taluk administration officials said there are more voters than the population of the village. Following an order of the government, they have sent notices. The official added that the notices have been sent to those whose names were not listed during the 2011 census. “We found 40 per cent more voters than the population of the village.

Therefore we have sent notice,” they said. During the 2011 census, the population of the island village was under 200, but now there are 204 voters in the village which is 40 per cent more than population. Ironically many youths who are working in Goa and other places were not included in the 2011 census either in their village or Goa.

Tahsildar G N Naik said he will take written statements from all the 43 voters and enquire the same with Goa officials whether their names are in Goa list or not. Later, he will write to the government about the same and do his best for justice.
