Karwar: Lakshman Govind Naik, a rural postman attached to Baithakhol Sub Post Office,who had run away with huge deposit money of customers around couple of days back, surrendered before the district court here on 30th June, Friday.

Lakshman Naik had earned people's confidence initially by serving them promptly since many years ago. Hundreds of fishmen had deposited their savings in postal deparment. Instead of crediting the amount to goverment account, Lakshman had misused the deposit money. When misappropriation of deposits came to light, hundreds of depositors had picketed the post office.

Postal Department Vigilance officer had filed a complaint with police. Besides, Postal Department had also ordered departmental inquiry.

"The court handed over judical custody. The police would seek his custody for further investigation", says Sub -Inspector Kusumadhar.
