Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha directed the officials to prepare an action plan to free Udupi district from substance abuse and drug consumption.

The supply and use of drugs should be stopped completely in the district, he said.

Chairing a meeting on ‘Nasha Mukth Bharath Abhiyan’, he said there is a need to organise camps under the campaign and create awareness on the ill-effects of the use of drugs in schools and colleges.

Various activity-oriented clubs should be started in schools and colleges to engage students in activities and awareness programmes. A case should be filed against heads of educational institutions if the use of drugs is traced in college campuses, he added.

Separate phone numbers should be used to create awareness among the public on drug abuse. The social media platforms should be used to create awareness on the ill-effects of the use of drugs, he said.

Taluk level sub-committees should be constituted to create awareness on drug abuse. There is a need to provide counselling to addicts, he said. 

The police personnel should conduct raids to check the supply of drugs, he added.

Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu and others were present.
