Mangaluru: Former minister C M Ibrahim predicted that ‘Acche Din’ for people of the country will come on June 1, after the Congress-led coalition government assumes power at the Centre.
He told reporters at the Congress Bhavan on Tuesday that Narendra Modi will not be re-elected as prime minister of India. A coalition government will be formed at the Centre and the majority of the seats in Karnataka will be won by the Congress – JD(S) coalition candidates, he predicted.
“We want to live peacefully in the country. The communal harmony and brotherhood should not be destroyed in the country. Instead of engaging in dubious methods like I-T raids on Congress – JD(S) leaders, the BJP should fight the election directly,” he stressed.
Ibrahim described the 17th Lok Sabha election as meant for deciding if the election and the Constitution is needed in the future. “Instead of seeking votes on the NDA government’s achievements in the past five years, the BJP candidates are seeking votes in the name of Modi,” he added.
‘Weak India?’
He came down heavily on the BJP’s statement that India was weak during the Congress regime. He sought to know when India was weak.
“Did India not fight the war against Pakistan in the past? The surgical strikes were carried out during the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh as well. Surgical strikes were maintained secretly by the Army in the past. It was not publicised, unlike by the Modi government. Did the Army issue any statement on how many deaths took place during the airstrike?” he asked.
“The Modi government has created an Emergency-like atmosphere in the country. Those who oppose the BJP and Modi are branded anti-national,” alleged Ibrahim.
He accused Dakshina Kannada sitting MP Nalin Kumar Kateel of failing to save Vijaya Bank from the merger. “Had Kateel tendered his resignation over the issue, his image would have improved in the minds of the people,” he stressed.
