Karwar: Students often are eager to know how top government officials work and what is their routine. To provide an opportunity for students to understand the official responsibilities of government servants and their daily lives, a young IAS officer has planned a novel programme.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammed Roshan has launched a programme called 'A day with the CEO'. In the beginning, as many as ten students and two headmasters/headmistress from Karwar and Sirsi Educational districts will get a chance to participate in the programme. They will spend an entire day (from morning to evening) with the CEO. The zilla panchayat itself will arrange for a vehicle to ferry them and also look after their lunch and snacks.

Why this programme?

"A programme was held at the District sub-regional science centre in Karwar in November 2018. During that programme, I had assured that I would offer a chance to students and teachers of the schools which bagged the 'Parisara Mitra' award to spend some time with a government official. To fulfil that promise, I invited the students and teachers who have received the award to participate in the 'A day with the CEO' programme," Mohammed Roshan said.

He also informed that a day in March last week will be fixed for the students and teachers of Heggarani Government Primary School in Ankola taluk to take part in the programme. Another five students and teacher from Mundgod school will be given an opportunity to participate in the programme in the first week of April.

He said that the main aim of the programme was to inspire students about the activities of government officers and government programmes.

"I will ensure that the students and the teachers are ferried in government vehicles to the programmes I participate and the places I inspect on that day. They will spend the day with me. I will visit various gram panchayats to review the conditions there. Toilet works will be reviewed under the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan. In addition to that, government schools and hospitals will be inspected," the CEO added.
