Udupi: A 19-year-old youth drowned in Malpe beach on Saturday evening. Police have identified the deceased as Deepak, an ITI student from Bengaluru.

Deepak had come to the beach along with his 12 friends. In spite of warnings by lifeguards against venturing into sea, the group of students entered water and Deepak was washed away. Search operations launched by the Malpe police did not yield any result till Sunday evening. The police will deploy a boat to trace the body on Monday.
