Yellapur: A bridegroom was killed on the spot and others injured when the Swift car they were travelling in collided head-on with a tanker near K Milan Hotel on NH 63 on the outskirts of Yellapur on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as 26-years-old Afroz Iqbal Sheikh of Dandeli. Afroz along with his family and friends had been to Sirsi to collect the wedding jewellery and was on his way to Hangal, where his wedding was supposed to be held. But the car met with an accident and Afroz who was injured seriously died on the way to the hospital. Kiran Kumar Mallappa Kansigeri (26), Rubina Sheikh (27), Afsan Imtiyaz Sheikh (11) and Arman Imtiyaz Sheikh too were injured in the accident. They were initially admitted to the Taluk hospital and were later shifted to hospital in Hubballi.

Rash and negligent driving are the major reasons for the accident, police said.
