Kumta: A woman, who was riding pillion, lost her life after the bike in which she was traveling, was hit by a speeding truck near Muroor cross NH-66 in Kumta on Tuesday morning.

The deceased is identified as Swati Kemaram Devasi, a resident of Chikkodi in Belgaum district.

Sources said that the accident happened when a truck moving from Hubli to Mangaluru had an head-on collision with the bike. The impact of collision was such that the woman received severe injuries and succumbed to it on the spot.

It is said that the victim woman along with her husband had been to Kumta from Kaiga for medical check-up. She was employed as a cook in Kaiga power plant.
