Yellapur: A resident of Hasanagi village of Yellapur taluk, Rita Fernandes (55) died at private hospital, in Manipal, due to H1N1.

She was admitted at a private hospital in Sirsi, following fever and cough. However, doctors suspecting pneumonia, gave her treatment and discharged her from hospital. She once again visited the hospital with same complaints on July 24. After undergoing various tests, doctors suspected she might be suffering from H1N1.

Rita was taken to hospital in Manipal and on July 27, doctors confirmed that she was suffering from H1N1 and began treatment. However she failed to respond and breathed her last.

Her body was brought to her native on Saturday and government doctors who examined her medical reports confirmed She died due to H1N1.

It might be recalled here that last month two persons in Bhatkal had died due to H1N1.
