Sirsi: Winter has arrived late to Malenad region of the district this time. The mercury-level has dipped in the last two days and people have begun getting the feel of the cold weather.

As per the information available with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the minimum temperature in Sirsi area on Tuesday was 16 degree celsius and maximum temperature was 30.5 degree celsius.

On Tuesday, mist greeted the morning walkers till 9:00 am in both urban and rural areas. The mist was so thick that a person standing 100 metres was not visible. Such sudden mist took the regular morning walkers by surprise. Even at 8:30 am, the sun hardly came out of the clouds and school children had to walk to their schools on the misty roads itself.

“Even at the end of December, the cold was not much. We did not find it necessary to wear warm clothes for walking. But for the past two days, we are feeling the cold,” said Sumathi, a morning walker.

In the rural areas too, people have begun experiencing cold. Those supplying milk to the dairies and those working in the fields find it tough to step out of their houses due to cold. “The utensil used while milking literally turned ice-cold in the morning. Senior citizens keeping themselves warm by lighting bonfires was also seen. They heaved a sigh of relief only after the sun appeared in the afternoon,” said Suresh of Targodu.
