Siddapur: The police have arrested one person on Monday, accused in the murder a widow, which happened on Saturday, at Siddapur in Uttara Kannada district.

The accused is identified as Raju Thimma Gawda, a resident of Dodman in Siddapur taluk.

Police are investigating whether Raju reached the widow's house to rape her and killed when she tried to rescue herself, or went to her house with the intention of robbery.

According to sources, the happening of the incident came to light on Sunday morning when a man arrived at her house to issue power bill, where he found the woman's body fallen in the house surrounded with blood. He immediately informed the locals about the incident after which Siddapur police rushed to the spot. Sources also said that the clothes from the woman's body were scattered as if an attempt was made to rape her.

The deceased has been identified as Gauri Ishwar Naik (50). It is said that her husband passed away last year, while her son had been to Thirthalli in Shimoga district with some works, and her daughter was married and staying at her inlaws house in Hosur. 

Siddapur police are investigating into the matter.
