Fishermen advised not to venture into sea till July 26
Mangaluru: Five houses were partially damaged due to rainfall in Dakshina Kannada district on Friday.
A total of 4,280 electricity poles and 209 transformers have been damaged in the district since April. With catchment areas receiving good rainfall, the inflow into Rivers Nethravathi and Kumaradhara has increased.
The water level in Nethravathi stood at 6.9 metres in Bantwal and at 28.3 metres in Uppinangady. The inflow into AMR dam was 77,782 cusec, while same volume of excess water was released into the river. The water-level in Thumbe vented dam stood at 5.5 metres.
The compound wall of Sri Sharada High School was damaged in the rain at Panemangalore. With the increase in water-level in River Kumaradhara, the bathing ghat (snanaghatta) submerged again at Kukke Subrahmanya. The vented dam was also submerged in Subrahmanya.
Home Guards have been deployed on the banks of Kumaradhara to ensure that none step into the river.
Subrahmanya, Panja, Yenekallu, Balpa, Kollamogru, Harihara Pallathadka, Guthigaru, Bilinele, Kallugudde, Ichlampadi and surrounding areas received bountiful rain.
In Udupi
The district received an average of 52.7 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours (ending on Friday morning).
The rain completely damaged the house of one Bittu Poojarthy in Sanoor village in Karkala taluk and the loss is estimated to be Rs 2 lakh. The house belonging to one Vinod Achari in Navunda in Byndoor taluk was also damaged. The cattle shed belonging to Sharada Achari in Bijur in Byndoor taluk was completely damaged. The loss to both the properties was estimated to be around Rs 50,000 each.
Hebri taluk received highest average rainfall of 104.7 mm, followed by Byndoor - 70.8 mm, Kundapur - 57.5 mm, Karkala - 39.6 mm, Brahmavar - 25.2mm, Udupi - 21.7 mm and Kaup - 13.8 mm.

Sea erosion has also intensified along the coast in both the districts.
