Ankola: Almost entire Uttara Kannada district received heavy rain on Friday. The rain which had restricted itself to the coastal areas spread to the Malnad area also.
Ankola, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Karwar and Kumta in coastal areas and Sirsi, Siddapur and Joida received heavy downpour on Friday.
Following heavy rain, water gushed into more than 30 houses in Keni, Shirakuli and other areas in Ankola taluk on Friday causing damage to clothes, grains and other household items.
To prevent further loss, the affected villagers shifted their belongings to safer place.
At the Ashray Colony in Bant Keni, water entered into 18 houses causing huge loss to the owners. The water entered the houses as the civic body authorities had not cleared clogged drains and the water could not flow smoothly. However later, the officers of the civic body got down to work and ensured that the silt is removed for smooth movement of water.
The water-logging problem also caused inconvenience at Baleguli where National Highway No: 66 and 63 meet. The problem had arisen due to unscientific work by IRB company. Several vehicles took alternative routes and avoided the highway due to water-logging.
Gokarna: Many roads in Gokarna also witnessed water stagnation due to torrential rain on Friday. This affected normal life.
Water on Ratha Beedi stood up to three feet and the road looked like lakes. Even Ganjigadde, Belehittal, Tarmakki and other areas took received heavy rain.
