Uttara Kannada district retain fourth place in PU exams

Karwar: Uttara Kannada district has retained its fourth position at State-level in Pre-university exams, results of which were announced on Monday.

The district has recorded an overall pass per cent of 73.05%, whereas last year the district had seen 76.75% of students who appeared for the exams clear them.

The exams were held in 30 centres of the district from March 1 to 18. A total of 14,532 students had written the exams, of which 10,616 students have cleared all the subjects. Of the 739 private students who had written the exams, only 190 could clear them. Even among repeaters, only 341 students cleared the class 12 exams though 1,122 students had reattempted it.

The trend of girl students clearing the exams continued as 78.22% of girl students who sat for exams cleared it compared to 66.21% of boys. Of the total 8,282 girl students who appeared for March exams, 6,478 cleared it, while only 4,138 boys out of the 6,250 students cleared it this year.

Urban-rural divide

The urban-rural divide was evident in the results, with 8,078 urban students (74.16%) out of 10,893 cleared the exams as against 2,538 (69.74%) rural students scored pass marks out of 3,639 students who sat for the exams.

Commerce students continued to outperform their arts and science counterparts, as 77.48% of commerce students cleared the exams. A total of 6,764 students wrote the exams of which 5,241 cleared it. In Science stream (73.68%) of the total 3,902 students, only 2,875 completed the course and in Arts (64.67%), of the 3,866 students only 2,500 students cleared it.

All the pre-university colleges are expected to receive the total pass percentage by Tuesday.
