Karwar: Uttara Kannada district secured 71.99% results in the PUC second reults that were announced on Thursday, and stood third to the State.
In the Science division, Sirsi's MES Chaitanya PU College's Pratika Chandrashekhar Bhat secured a total of 595 marks and stood second to the State, this bringing laurels to the district.
Last year, the district had secured 76.44% and stood fourth to the State. Though the passing percentage is less this year. the ranking is one position up.
Girls fare better
This year, a total of 13,322 studnets appeared for the exam. Of them 3,970 are boys and 6,283 are girls.
In the Arts section, the pass percentage is 61.36% in Commerce it is 76.85% and Science it is 73.55%. In the rural region, the total pass percentage if 64.99 and in urban region, it is 74.26% Karwar's Government PU College's blind student Omkar Pravaskar secured 566 (94.33%) in the Arts division. In socials science, he scored 100 out of 100.
More efforts has to be done to improve the PU results. Though the district stood third to the State, there has been a decline in the pass percentage. A special five-day training for lecturers had been organised in 2016-17 to improve the results. Special classes were taken for students for Science, Commerce and English subjects. More efforts will be made to improve the results next year, said DDPU KV Bhat to reproters.
