Udupi: Udupi district as on Thursday had collected Rs 1,43,300 as penalty from people found flouting rules to maintain social distancing and wearing mask.

Udupi, Karkala, Kundapura, Kapu and Salimgram ULBs collected Rs 81,400 in the past few months from the violators. Meanwhile, panchayats in Udupi, Karkala, Kundapura, Kapu, Brahmavara, Hebri and Byndoor collected Rs 61,900 from those who had flouted the rules. Udupi CMC had collected Rs 47,200 as fine from violators. Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that drives against those who fail to wear a mask and maintain social distancing while in public places will continue in the district.
