Udupi: Opposing the amended Citizenship Act, a protest was staged in various masjids in Udupi after offering Friday prayer, in Udupi.
Addressing the protesters at Jamiya Masjid in Udupi, Udupi District Muslim Okkuta President Yasin Malpe said, “Through the Citizenship Act, the centre is conspiring to divide the country on the basis of religion. An attempt is being made to create a rift among people from various communities who were living with love and trust all these years.” The act has sent a message that Muslims are lesser citizens in the country. The Act should be withdrawn at the earliest. If they fail to withdraw the Act, then protest will be intensified in the future, he warned.
In the protest held at Nejaru Jamiya masjid, administrative committee president Haji Aboobakkar Nejaru, Khatib Usman Madani and others were present.
The protests were also organised at Athradi Mohiyuddin Juma Masjid, Gangolli Kendra Juma Masjid, Gangolli Mohiyuddin Juma Masjid, Mohiyuddin masjid at Navunda-Maravanthe, M Kodi Bilal Juma Masjid, Koteshwara Sultan Juma Masjid, Hemmadi Rahmani Juma Masjid, Moodugopay Rifai Jumma Masjid, Kundapura Kodi Muhiyuddin Juma Masjid and others.
