Udupi: The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has submitted a memorandum to the Udupi District Superintendent of Police demanding a strict investigation and a stern action against the Police officer for allegedly beating a youth causing multiple fractures over his body.
The youth who was beaten is identified as BH Abdullah (26), a resident of Kandlur in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district.
With the intention of earning for his livelihood, Abdullah is said to have gone for fishing in the Kulwadi river on July 18 at around 4 AM. At this moment, the sub-inspector of the Kandlur Rural Police Station stopped Abdullah and questioned him. Even after informing the inspector that he had left the house for fishing, the cop abused and beat Abdullah with baton so badly that he suffered fractures in one of his arms and leg.
APCR District President Hussain Kodi Bengre, in his complaint to the SP, said, after beating Abdullah, the inspector also threatened him that if he informed anyone about the incident, or tried to go to court, the impact would be worst. He demanded a strict investigation into the whole incident and stern action against the culprit. The APCR has also forwarded the complaint to the Chief Secretary of State, DGP, IGP, Chief Justice High Court, Minority Commission and State Human Rights Commission, and demanded an inquiry into the matter at the earliest.
